OUTREACH (Mission) NEWS
The St Nicholas' Parish is committed to giving a proper proportion of its income to mission and an Outreach Committee exists to enable this. The Parish Outreach Committee (POC) acts in an advisory capacity and puts forward recommendations for approval by the Parochial Church Council (PCC) as to how the Parish's outreach money should be allocated.
The POC comprises a chairman appointed by the Rector, and co-opted onto the PCC, two representatives from each of the three churches, plus two more from the PCC.
10% of the Parish's annual giving is distributed between a number of charities most of which receive donations regularly but some as a one-off gift. Over £20,000 per year is distributed.
The charities chosen are Christian based, the major recipients being missionary societies - Bible Society, Church Mission Society, SPCK & USPG. Money is given to charities at home as well as overseas.
A request for a donation (by an individual) goes to the chairman and is then tabled for discussion at the next meeting of the POC. Each of the three churches has as small allocation for their district which can be used at the discretion of each District Church Council (DCC).
Some money is set aside for use in an emergency and can be sent without delay.
